• Art for All Opens in La Quinta: The Coachella Valley's very first creative reuse center officially opened its doors on September 1 at Old Town Artisan Studios (78046 Calle Barcelona, La Quinta). "Art for All" offers new and gently used art supplies on a pay-what-you-can basis, keeping materials out of landfills while making creativity accessible to everyone. • Palm Springs Honors Police Chief Andy Mills: The city held a celebration honoring the retirement of Police Chief Andy Mills, recognizing his years of service to the Palm Springs community.


• First Rain in Months: Palm Springs recorded one-tenth of an inch of rainfall in early September — the first measurable precipitation in several months, offering a welcome (if brief) respite from the summer heat.


• La Quinta Resort Centennial Continues: La Quinta Resort & Club is deep into its "Summer of the Century," a 100-day celebration marking 100 years since its founding in 1926. • Tramway Heads Into Maintenance: The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway closes September 8 for its annual preventative maintenance, with a tentative reopening around October 5. Plan your tram visits accordingly!


• Chicago & Styx Rock Acrisure Arena: The "Windy Cities Tour" brought two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acts to Acrisure Arena on September 2 for a memorable night of classic rock.


• McCallum Theatre Season Kickoff: The McCallum Theatre hosted a free community Block Party on September 12 to kick off its 2026–2027 season — a beloved annual tradition welcoming the valley back to the arts.

Looking to give back this fall? Here are some local organizations making a difference in the Coachella Valley:

• FIND Food Bank — According to their website, FIND Food Bank is currently welcoming volunteers for warehouse sorting, community food distributions, and homebound delivery driving. Programs are available for volunteers ages 14 and up, with various shifts to fit your schedule. Sign up at findfoodbank.org →


• Animal Samaritans — According to their website, Animal Samaritans is currently welcoming volunteers for shelter support (cat cuddlers, dog walkers, dog socializers), their foster program, the Highway Heroes animal transport team, clinic greeting, and special events. • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert — According to their website, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert is actively recruiting mentors (Bigs) for one-to-one youth mentorship across the valley, including programs in Indio, Coachella, La Quinta, Mecca, and Cathedral City.
