CV Weekly: Splash House Wraps Weekend One, Shake Shack Coming to La Quinta & More

By Desert Biz Connect

✨ Last Week Around the Valley

August is in full swing across the Coachella Valley, and last week brought a mix of big concerts, community milestones, and a few bittersweet goodbyes. Here's what happened:

🎢 Splash House Weekend One Wraps Up

The first weekend of Splash House 2026 (August 7–9) brought thousands of music fans to Palm Springs for daytime pool parties at the Renaissance, Saguaro, and Hilton Palm Springs hotels, with After Hours performances at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Highlights included a DJ set by Foster the People and sets by The Chainsmokers. Weekend Two runs August 14–16 β€” featuring Alison Wonderland and Gorgon City β€” so there's still time to catch the fun. Learn more at splashhouse.com.

🎀 Legendary Concerts Light Up the Desert

Friday, August 8 was a big night for live music. Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire performed together at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, while the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes took the stage at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage. The valley's summer concert calendar continues to impress.

😒 A Valley Farewell: TRIO Restaurant Closes After 17 Years

The Coachella Valley dining community said a sad goodbye this week as TRIO Restaurant, a beloved fixture at 707 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs' Uptown Design District, permanently closed its doors after 17 years of operation. The closure was sudden, with no official explanation provided. Co-founder Tony Marchese expressed sadness at the end of an era that had been central to so many community events and relationships. The separate TRIO location at Palm Springs International Airport remains open. (Desert Sun)

🎭 Palm Canyon Theatre Celebrates 30 Years

Palm Canyon Theatre β€” the Coachella Valley's longest-running producing theatre company β€” officially launched individual ticket sales on August 1 for its milestone 30th Anniversary Season (2026–27). The season runs October 2026 through July 2027 and features productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Producers, Evita, and more. Season packages start at $166. 🏘️ Cotino by Disney: Fall Opening on the Horizon

The public-facing Cotino Bay Beach, Dining and Shops town center in Rancho Mirage is on track for a fall 2026 opening. Confirmed tenants include Elevare (a waterfront restaurant), On the Mark Fine Foods & Provisions, Artigiano coffee (its first U.S. location), and Khaga Yoga. The development will be open to both residents and visitors. (Disney Experiences)
