The first days of May brought a mix of community milestones, outdoor adventure, and local sports excitement to the Coachella Valley. Here's a look at what happened across the desert this past week.

    • Indio Badlands Trailhead Opens: The City of Indio celebrated a ribbon-cutting on April 27 for the newly improved Indio Badlands Trailhead, now featuring expanded parking, solar lighting, new trees, and better pathways — a great addition to the valley's outdoor recreation options.     • La Quinta Park Improvements: Fritz Burns Park in La Quinta held a ribbon-cutting on April 29 to celebrate recent upgrades, and the La Quinta Museum hosted a "Food Stories Celebration" on May 1. City of La Quinta

    • Palm Springs Sustainability Push: The Palm Springs Sustainability Commission unveiled new waste reduction goals and announced a heat summit planned for September, following a climate research presentation on April 30. Palm Springs Post

    • SilverRock/Talus Update: The ongoing bankruptcy case for the SilverRock/Talus development in La Quinta continues, with a court hearing scheduled this month to determine distribution of proceeds from the $65 million land sale that closed in December 2025. City of La Quinta

    • The Palm Springs Cultural Center marked Star Wars Day (May 4) with a special screening of Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope, complete with a pre-show and discussion with a former entertainment editor who attended the original 1977 test screening.

    • Revolution Stage Company in Palm Springs wrapped up its Cabaret Riot competition finale on May 4.

    • The final concert of the Levitt AMP Twentynine Palms Music Series took place on May 2, closing out a great season of free outdoor music. CV Independent

    • College of the Desert's Music Club presents a free Student Music Showcase on May 5 at the Pollock Theater — a great opportunity to support local student talent.

    • The College of the Desert Roadrunners baseball team made program history, securing their 32nd win of the season — a new record! Congratulations to the team.

    • Big news for basketball fans: the Lakers G League team has relocated to the valley, rebranding as the Coachella Valley Lakers and will play at Acrisure Arena starting in the 2026–27 season. Patch

    • A windy system moved through the valley over the weekend, with gusts reaching 30–35 mph in eastern areas.
